Another Haiti Earthquake Brought on by 6.1 Aftershock

The last thing that Haiti needed right now was another earthquake. Yet today, Haiti was struck by another earthquake that was almost as powerfull as the previous one. As A Matter Of Fact, the strength of the aftershock was up to 6.1 on the Richter scale, just .9 less than the 7.0 that ravaged the country. The death toll and casualty brought on by the 6.1 Aftershock can't be as bad as last week's quake, there isn't alot of things standing from the last earthquake that can be destroyed. But in Haiti, another quake extends the seemingly unending nightmare.

Since this was rather an aftershock, and thankfully not a full blown earthquake, the damage shouldn't be as extensive. Even So regarding how Haiti has barely cleared up the damage from the last quake, more earth tremors are not welcome - specially ones that rate a 6.0. The official totals for the new casualties is not yet known.the USGS reports that there have been a total of about 40 aftershocks as a result of the original earthquake. However this one today was the largest one, and caused the most damage.

Solomon Islands Earthquake Slams with 7-2 Magnitude

Sydney, Australia - The Solomon Islands archipelago in the Pacific was hit by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake today, less than an hour after a 6.5-magnitude temblor triggered a warning of possible local tsunamis.

The quake hit at 9:36 a.m. local time about 103 kilometers (64 miles) south-southeast of Gizo, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The earthquake was 30.5 kilometers deep.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a 6.5-magnitude earthquake in the same area at 8:48 a.m. may cause local tsunamis that could be destructive along coasts within a few hundred kilometers of the epicenter.

There is no tsunami threat to the Australian coastline, the Bureau of Meteorology said on its Web site.

The Solomon Islands archipelago, about 2,500 kilometers east of Australia, lies in the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and experiences frequent seismic tremors. About 50 people were killed and more than 5,000 left homeless there after an 8.1- magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami in April 2007.

Wes Welker Knee Injury Could Devastate New England Patriots

Wes Welker suffered a knee injury in the Patriots vs. Texans game Sunday. The Wes Welker knee injury took place in the first quarter of the game on a pass to the far sideline. Welker caught the Tom Brady pass, and while making a cut to avoid a defensive back ended up hurting his knee and going down in a pile. A cart was brought out to take Wes Welker off the field, and it was immediately obvious that the Welker injury was pretty severe.

Wes Welker Knee Injury

The severity of the Wes Welker injury has not been released, as he is undergoing testing to determine what exactly went wrong with the knee. It looked bad during the game coverage, and anytime a player has to be taken off of the field by cart it's not a good sign. New England Patriots fans will be keeping a close eye on this injury, because if it turns out to be serious and Welker has to miss time, it could really limit the offensive capabilities of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC Playoffs.

Wes Welker has been the most consistent wide receiver for the New England Patriots this season, and Welker actually leads the Patriots in catches and receiving yards. Coming into today's game, Wes Welker has 122 catches for 1,336 yards and four touchdowns. They are very impressive statistics for a guy that plays the game of football the right way, and he was definitely one of the biggest weapons that the Patriots had on offense. If he has to miss any time that offensive load will be placed on Randy Moss even more in the playoffs.

We will update this article if we find out any more news on the Wes Welker injury, or if the Patriots release a statement about the severity of it.
